What you’ll be doing while you are with us?
Volunteers usually work on our regular schools’ programmes during the week. Working hours depend on the school you are at, but a general guideline is 8am until mid-afternoon. Fridays are reserved for training or special events, or sometimes you will get the day off. There is some weekend work depending on bookings at the time, usually at special events, which are a load of fun. Over the Christmas period, things slow down due to programmes closing down for the break. Volunteers arriving during this time will have a good chance to travel and see the country during their placement.

What our volunteers Say
My Experience as a volunteer at The Future Factory was a life-changing event. During my time I was able to experience South African culture and connect with many different communities in the Western Cape. During my time I volunteered at a a primary school teaching physical education. I had no experience teaching physical education but I was given all the support needed to be successful. While there I was able to help coach the track team and attend the different track meets they participated in. I loved being able to help the kids improve their athletic skills and watch them perform at track meets. Those days are something I have never forgotten. I was also able to help out with a high school track team and university volleyball team. I really enjoyed the exposure to different age groups and abilities the future factory provided. The Future Factory has so many different programs, schools and community centres that they work with. There’s never a shortage for ways to help out. Annie and The Future Factory staff were always there to answer any questions and make sure all my needs were met. I was even able to come back years later to teach yoga in schools. The Future Factory has given me timeless memories and a beautiful way to be of service to others. My experience as a Future Factory volunteer has gave me life skills that I still apply today.
I have spent some time at the creches supported by The Future Factory, in particular at Rooikappie Pre-School Centre. It was wonderful to join in and help with different activities, such as story time, music and dance, and helping the children with colouring and puzzles. I am grateful to The Future Factory for these opportunities. I am also glad that my own organisation, Children’s Helpers Worldwide, has been able to fundraise for the crèches namely Rooikaapie and Seawind crèches.
